| | Fametech (Tysso) focuses on laser barcode scanners and CCD scanners

Fametech Inc., founded in 1981, manufactures barcode scanners and magnetic stripe scanners for AIDC (automatic identification and data collection) and POS (point-of-sale) peripherals that are sold in more than 100 countries under the brand name, Tysso.
How much of each product accounts for your production? Our major product is the
CCD barcode scanner and
Laser Scanners , and Portable Magnetic Stripe Card Readers which we sell approximately 10,000 units per month. And now we are focusing on the POS system and the processor printer. These two are our current products. For POS systems, we make around 100 units per month. The receipt printer is around 500 units a month and the
pole display, it's also around 500 pieces per month.
What are your major markets? At least 60 percent of our market is Europe. The rest goes to Asia. We only have around 10 percent in the United States and Canada.
Where do you manufacture your products? Most of them are made in Taiwan. For example, only this model PRP-058 thermal printer, is made in China. Most of our other products are made in Taiwan because they are not for the consumer market so they don't need to be mass-produced here.
Are all the products products in-house? All our products are done in-house. For example the CCD scanner, which is our most popular product, is one hundred percent made in our factory here in Taiwan. And for some other products like the printer, we source the mechanism from Seiko, and we build our own housing and components.
How do you see the production of these four products changing over the next year? I think the printer will be the best-selling product this year because we have received numerous inquiries for this model. The current production for the printer is only around 500 pieces a month, but we expect it to increase. We might also increase production of this Serial-to-Ethernet converter. You can just hook this device with this converter and send the serial data-stream over the LAN or internet without using an additional PC.
Each of your products has a different component. What is the most important component in each of your main product? The most important component for the CCD scanner would be the sensor, which we generally buy from Toshiba and NEC. For the printer, it's the
receipt printer module from Sekio. For the display, the most important is the module, the VFD tube. For the Serial-Ethernet Converter card, the most important component is a chip we buy from D-Link.
What is the main area of R&D that your company is pursuing at this time? Right now, we are trying to improve the performance of our BARCODE scanner and we trying to reduce the cost at the same time. And we are also very concerned about our POS terminal and receipt printer development. We are also improving the decoder chips. We are constantly fixing the barcode scanners to get the ultimate performance.
What is your largest production challenge for each of these products? There is no big challenge because all these products are related.
What is the price trend for each of your products over the next year? The price or barcode scanners will at least remain the same or increase a little, but not too much.
